Please Note: Froedtert Health has implemented a new security protocol which has resulted in the degradation of on-campus access to MCW Libraries' electronic resources. Users on the Froedtert network must sign in via OpenAthens when attempting to access electronic library resources (including UpToDate, VisualDx, etc.). MCW Libraries is aware of this change and is working to provide a permanent access solution. If you have MCW credentials, please sign in via MCW employees and students when prompted. If you are a Froedtert employee, click here to register for an OpenAthens account or view more information.

NIH Data Management & Sharing Plan (DMSP)

Storage Options at MCW

When working with sensitive data and information (human subjects data, data about individuals, protected sites, endangered species etc), consult with IRB to ensure data is adequately secure.

Box or OneDrive

Every MCW user has a finite amount of free space available on Box and OneDrive. Both solutions are cloud based, and utilize your MCW credentials for access. These solutions are suitable for productivity data, i.e., documents, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. Please do not store raw research data. In addition, both have a max file upload sizes, and an option to share data. Contact MCW-IS help desk with questions.

LabArchives

MCW's agreement with LabArchives offers researchers free access to a modern, secure, cloud-based method of organizing their lab data. Key features include: Unlimited data storage, large file upload, versioning tools, and HIPAA BAA agreement. Each electronic lab notebook has a finite amount of space available and a max single file upload size. ELN is free to all users, but should not be considered a primary storage system. ELN should be used to store data that would normally be stored in a paper notebook, or supplemental storage. Data sharing is also possible.

Network Drives

You have a network drive associated with your department or center. Most users with MCW-owned or managed machines will recognize this storage as a H:\ or G:\ drive on their Windows computer. This storage is meant for productivity data, i.e., documents, spreadsheets, etc. Please do not store raw research data. Contact MCW-IS help desk with questions.

RCC Storage

Research Computing provides large-scale storage for active research projects. Storage options include traditional network storage mounts and high-performance storage for cluster jobs. Key features include: 1TB free for your lab, replication copy of data, available to Windows, Mac, or Linux. See https://docs.rcc.mcw.edu/storage/rcc-storage/ for more information.
