Please Note: Froedtert Health has implemented a new security protocol which has resulted in the degradation of on-campus access to MCW Libraries' electronic resources. Users on the Froedtert network must sign in via OpenAthens when attempting to access electronic library resources (including UpToDate, VisualDx, etc.). MCW Libraries is aware of this change and is working to provide a permanent access solution. If you have MCW credentials, please sign in via MCW employees and students when prompted. If you are a Froedtert employee, click here to register for an OpenAthens account or view more information.
OpenAthens is the gateway to getting access to MCW Libraries subscription resources from anywhere.
MCW Libraries resources are available anytime, anywhere, and on any device.
To connect to resources from off-campus, start out at the library's publicly accessible homepage or at any of our LibGuides. If you click a link to a subscription resource, you will be prompted to login to OpenAthens. Those with MCW accounts can use their account information to login. Other users, including Children's Wisconsin and Froedtert Health employees need to register for an account.
Logging in is easy! If you have an MCW account, choose the first option and sign into Duo. If you are staff at Children's Wisconsin or Froedtert, a volunteer or adjunct faculty, or you have a library account, use the second option and login with your OpenAthens account.
If you come across OpenAthens links out in the world wide web, you can use them to get access to our library subscriptions. It's as easy as:
Note: If you are a Froedtert, Children's Wisconsin employee or have a non-MCW library account, you can skip steps 2-3 and use the "Sign in with your OpenAthens account" log in area. If you don't have an OpenAthens account, register here to set one up.
Use the Athenizer to create links to library content. Copy and paste a persistent link to an article, ebook, or journal here to generate a link that will authenticate you when off-campus.
Be sure to test the links before you share them. If you run into problems, or have questions, send us an email!
Note: Ebsco and ProQuest do not need to be Athenized.
